Pasadena's nightlife has a secret side, and this fall it is worth knowing. The Cellar pours a hidden underground wine list beneath Colorado Boulevard, Ladies and Gentlemen keeps its password-only basement speakeasy in Old Pasadena, and Osa Rooftop drinks above the AC Hotel with the San Gabriel Mountains in view. Around them, The Speakeasy keeps its long-running secret door on Raymond Avenue, and Burden of Proof offers the San Gabriel Valley's first zero-proof bottle shop in South Pasadena. I am Alejandro Espitia, a Broker Associate and REALTOR with Apex Realty and Investments, and Pasadena is my home turf. Licensed in California since 1996, with 200+ homes sold serving Los Angeles, San Bernardino, San Gabriel, and Riverside, and fluent in English and Spanish, I keep an eye on the neighborhood's best new places so you know where to go. Every pick below comes from current local reporting and listings, with sources at the bottom of the post.

The Cellar: an underground wine library on Colorado

The Cellar is a hidden, intimate wine bar tucked beneath 26 E. Colorado Boulevard in Old Pasadena, its entrance easy to walk past on the street near Vans and Lush. Guests check in before being escorted into a subterranean room lined with bookshelves and antiques, more wine library than bar: an extensive curated wine selection, shelves of books, live piano-bar evenings, and a menu of charcuterie, oysters, and small plates. It is open Thursday 6:00 pm to midnight, Friday and Saturday 6:00 pm to 1:00 am, and Sunday 4:00 to 9:00 pm, closed Monday through Wednesday, and a dress code applies. Reservations and details are on the Cellar site and the Old Pasadena directory.

Ladies and Gentlemen: the password speakeasy in Old Pasadena

Ladies and Gentlemen, at 59 E. Colorado Boulevard, Suite B-100 in the basement of the Indiana Colony building, is the speakeasy whose entrance is disguised as a restroom. Guests need the secret password to get in, and once inside, an open-kitchen bar serves whimsical, thematic cocktails in lavish, luxurious surroundings. Los Angeles Magazine called it “Pasadena's sexiest secret bar” when it opened in spring 2025, and it shares its owner with The Cellar. Hours are Thursday 6:00 pm to midnight, Friday and Saturday 6:00 pm to 2:00 am, and Sunday 6:00 to 10:00 pm. The Ladies and Gentlemen site explains how the password works, and the LAmag feature is a fun read on the room.

Osa Rooftop: drinks above the AC Hotel

Osa Rooftop, perched atop the AC Hotel Pasadena at 540 E. Colorado Boulevard along the Rose Parade route, is one of the few places in the city where you can drink with the San Gabriel Mountains and the skyline in view. From the hospitality group behind Yamashiro, it serves California cuisine built on fresh, locally sourced ingredients plus creative cocktails, with weekend brunch from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm and dinner daily from 4:00 pm. It is the rooftop stop to know before a sunset glass or a special dinner. Details are on the Osa Rooftop site, the AC Hotel dining page, and OpenTable.

Still behind the door: The Speakeasy on Raymond

The granddaddy of Pasadena's hidden bars, The Speakeasy at 25 N. Raymond Avenue, is a password-entry Prohibition-era cocktail bar concealed behind a New York deli facade. It has been pouring inventive craft cocktails in its moody, vintage interior for years, and it still tops local roundups in 2026, including Visit Pasadena's directory and Yelp's top-bars list. The secret password changes, so it is worth a quick call or check of the listing before you wander over.

For the non-drinker: Burden of Proof in South Pasadena

If you want the night-out ritual without the alcohol, Burden of Proof in South Pasadena is the San Gabriel Valley's first non-alcoholic, zero-proof bottle shop, a trending alternative to the bar scene that Pasadena Magazine calls out in its 2026 drinks guide. It carries a curated selection of zero-proof spirits, aperitifs, and mixers, and it is a great stop for hosting or for a dry night on the town. See the Pasadena Magazine drinks guide for the full scene, and check the shop's own page for hours and location details.

A note on details: bar hours, kitchen times, and small-plate menus can shift, and a few of the hidden rooms change their entry details and passwords quickly. Please confirm directly with each spot before you head out, and use the links below for the latest. If you have a favorite new Pasadena bar I missed, text me and I will add it to the next edition.
