The liveliest small-venue calendar around Pasadena right now belongs to Sid the Cat Auditorium in South Pasadena, a restored room with a steady run of shows from late October into mid-November: Vulfpeck's Theo Katzman opens the run on October 29, riot-grrrl favorites Heavens to Betsy arrive November 8, and folk troubadour Jake Xerxes Fussell plus British singer-songwriter Kate Nash land mid-month. Around town, Candlelight lights Pasadena Presbyterian Church with a Queen and Beatles tribute on November 13, and The Mixx keeps its Tuesday salsa nights going. I am Alejandro Espitia, a Broker Associate and REALTOR with Apex Realty and Investments, licensed in California (01213999) since 1996, serving Los Angeles, San Bernardino, San Gabriel, and Riverside, fluent in English and Spanish. I keep a running list of what is happening in the neighborhoods I serve, and every show below comes from the venue's own site or current event listings, with sources at the bottom of the post.
October 29: Theo Katzman at Sid the Cat
On Thursday, October 29 at 7:00 pm, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Theo Katzman, best known as a core member of Vulfpeck, plays Sid the Cat Auditorium at 1022 El Centro Street in South Pasadena. His solo sets mix funk, soul, and sharp storytelling, and they fit this intimate room perfectly. Tickets and details are on the Sid the Cat site, with listings on Vivid Seats.
November 8: Heavens to Betsy reunite on stage
On Sunday, November 8, Heavens to Betsy plays Sid the Cat Auditorium. The Olympia, Washington duo of Corin Tucker and Tracy Sawyer helped define the riot-grrrl sound of the nineties, and their reunion shows have been some of the most talked-about tickets in indie circles this year. It is a rare chance to hear those songs in a warm, close-up room. Confirmed via the Sid the Cat calendar and JamBase, with doors and show time on the venue site.
Mid-November: Jake Xerxes Fussell and Kate Nash
Sid the Cat closes out the stretch with two strong mid-November bookings. On Friday, November 13 at 8:00 pm, folk and country storyteller Jake Xerxes Fussell plays with Dougie Poole, bringing his gentle, endlessly re-readable take on American folk songs to South Pasadena. Then on Saturday, November 14, British singer-songwriter Kate Nash, of Foundations fame, headlines the same room. Ticket links live on Dice and SeatGeek, and it is worth confirming the exact show time on the venue calendar before you head out.
November 13: Candlelight pays tribute to Queen and The Beatles
On Friday, November 13 at 8:30 pm, the Candlelight Pasadena: Tribute to Queen and The Beatles series brings its candlelit string arrangements to Pasadena Presbyterian Church. The evening pairs two of the most beloved songbooks in pop history, performed by candlelight in a grand room, and tickets start around $33 through Fever. It is an easy, atmospheric date-night pick right in the heart of the city.
Salsa and tribute nights at The Mixx
For a regular, low-cover night out, The Mixx at 443 E. Colorado Boulevard keeps its calendar full with Salsa Mixx social dancing on Tuesdays, including November 3 and November 10, plus tribute shows through the month. It is a dependable spot when you want music without much fuss, and the Mixx events page has the latest lineup.
A note on details: show times, support acts, and ticket availability can shift, especially for small rooms, so please confirm directly with the venue before you go and use the links below for the latest.
